　発展途上国に対する外国直接投資が現地の産業に対して技術的外部経済をもたらすか否かは直接投資受入の効果を考える上で重要なポイントである．本稿は多数の多国籍企業が工場進出していることで知られる江蘇省昆山市において，進出企業から地場企業への技術的スピルオーバーがどのように起きているかを地場企業へのアンケートを通じて具体的に検証したものである．外資からの部品や資材の受注を通じ，地場企業の技術進歩がたしかに生じていることがアンケートから浮かび上がった．昆山市には有力なサプライヤーが育つとともに特定の部品等に特化した産業集積も形成されている．

Whether foreign direct investments (FDI) to developing countries provide technological external economy to the local industry is an important point in considering the economic effect of FDI. This study explores the existence of technological spillovers from transplants of multinational enterprises to local firms at Kunshan, China, which is famous for accepting a huge amount of inward FDI. Our questionnaire survey indicates that local firms’ technological progress has indeed been promoted through receiving subcontracting orders of component production from multinational enterprises. In Kunshan, several big suppliers have been fostered through subcontracting and some industrial clusters specializing in supplying a particular type of components to multinationals have emerged.
