報告要旨
The key to understanding the world history of political thought is metaphysics. Metaphysics constitutes the assumptions about the way the world operates that are essential to making sense of our place in the world. Metaphysics is even more important when we are trying to understand political thought comparatively across civilizations because it is essential to understanding differences in basic assumptions behind political ideas. Despite the tendency of modern thought, particularly modern Western thought, to denigrate and avoid metaphysics, we will demonstrate that it remains crucial to understanding political thought everywhere and at every time in history, including now.
